Telling Time: Clocks, Diaries, and English Diurnal Form, 1660-1785
Published in Library Binding by University of Chicago Press (January, 1997)
Author: Stuart Sherman
Average review score:

Telling Time--Waste of Time
It would be a complete waste of time to read "Telling Time." Why? Neither it nor the literature discussed is very good. It is about the dregs of prose from the 18th century in England. BOR-RING. It is my opinion that it is the sort of book destined to cause a minor amount of deforestation and then sit on library shelves unread, or read or skimmed by a very few who must read it for professional reasons. It is also my opinion that it is the sort of perfunctory book which professors must write from time to time in order to put the fact of its publication into their Curriculum Vitae.

A wonderful, insightful read
"Telling Time" is a beautifully written, insightful exploration into the emergence of clocks and personal diaries, and why they came about at the same time. Sherman is clearly a scholar of his subject as well as that rarity--an academic who is able to write clearly, cleanly and without needless and clumsy jargon. It is packed with information and cogent analysis. "Telling Time" is a must-read for scholars of the subject, as well as the interested general reader. I highly recommend it.

Who wants to pay for Advertising?
Same as the other volumes in this series, nice photos and WAY too much advertising. Pretty steep at this price for me to read ads!

concepts
The editor has clearly chosen a new direction to go in for this series of books, regarding the world of trophy hunting. The whole concept is to let the world travelling hunter or the not so far travelling hunter into the rooms of some of the largest collections for ideas or just the enjoyment of looking. So if you have a room full of beautiful biggame trophy's or just one woodduck that your proud of, then this is the book that will keep you interested in for many year's to come.I have two of these books now and I have added the others to my xmas and birthday list.

Trouble Storing the Pieces!
This book is very cute and my 2 year old nephew enjoyed putting the correct matching pieces into the book. Unfortunatley, the plastic compartment that is meant to hold the pieces is just not big enough to close once all of the pieces are in! It was taped shut when we got it and tape is the only way to keep it closed. If only they had given an extra couple of centimeters of space, we could be assured that the pieces wouldn't get lost so quickly. As it is, no matter how we try to arrange the pices, we can't get the compartment to stay closed. Those pieces will be lost soon (if they aren't lost already).

Caves of Mars (Falcon Gold Space Adventures, Vol 1)
Published in Hardcover by Linnet Books (March, 1988)
Author: Robert Sherman Wolff

Review
"Caves of Mars" was a pretty fair off book. It was interesting to me as I read it that even though it was written and published before the 90's it still had a sense of realism that most of the sci-fi stories of the past lacked. The use of time in the book also helped you understand how events would progress throughout the novel. It wasn't one of the best things I've read but it was entertaining to me.

The College of William & Mary: A History
Published in Hardcover by Society of the Alumni (June, 1994)
Authors: Susan H. Godson, Ludwell H. Johnson, and Richard B. Sherman
Average review score:

History of College of W&M
The history is told from the viewpoint of the adminbistration, not the student. This absence of the students'viewpoint is the major weakness. The first part deals with Colonial History up to the early 20th century when W&M became a public institution. As W&M has an extraordinary history, filled with war at the doorstep, constant struggle just to survive, the story is essentially interesting. The most informative part of the second section when the college is public is the insight into funding of a public university and the stupidity of some government officials, as the state auditor who recommended in the 1940s as I recall that all donated money be credited to the state. The contrary argument, which won, was that that would simply kill all donations to the college. This is a good book for libraries and may be used by students of American history to benefit.

Commanding Voices of Blue & Gray: General William T. Sherman, General George Custer, General James Longstreet, & Major J.S. Mosby, Among Others, in Their Own Words

Matt's Book Review
When I started reading "Commanding Voices Of Blue And Grey" By Brian M. Thomson, I'll admit I wasn't exactly thrilled to read it, but after a while it started to grow on me. The book was kind of hard to read because it wasn't in a story format like I'm used to. This book didn't really have a main character through the whole book, and it was kind of like a textbook, except much more interesting. Brian M. Thomson did a terrific job turning the experiences of different people that served in the civil war into short story like scenes. This book had some good battle scenes and some very important people that turned the tide in the war. This book was extremely good about showing both sides of the story. This book helped me completely understand the civil war and it was also surprisingly good.

Fields of Gray: Battle of Griswoldville, November 22, 1864
Published in Hardcover by Caisson Press (August, 1996)
Author: Gary Livingston
Average review score:

A well-researched treatise on an important footnote
Mr. Livingston's research is excellent, but the writing and somewhat sloppy copy editing detract from what could have been--should have been--a moving and important story about one of the great tragedies of the Civil War. I recommend for any serious Civil War enthusiast who can add his own experience to complete the greater canvas, but the casual reader might be confused as to the movement of the action and the place of the various characters.

How to Do Your Own Contested Divorce in California 2 Ed: Solving Divorce Problems In or Out of Court
Published in Paperback by Nolo Press Occidental (01 March, 2001)
Authors: Charles Edward Sherman, Robin Yeamans, and Ed Sherman
Average review score:

Not a Comprehensive Divorce Book
I assumed from the marketing that this was a comprehensive book, but to actually "do your own" divorce you also need their other book on divorce and possibly the support calculator book. It's too bad because I had given the other book to my ex and now I have to buy it all over again.
